Diabetes mellitus is a complicated condition of the body that happens when the cells of the body stop responding to the insulin present in the blood for the proper metabolism of sugar present in the blood and the liver. It is thus basically a metabolic system disorder involving improper glucose metabolism by the liver.
Sometimes, the liver itself either stop producing or produces too little insulin for glucose metabolism resulting in abnormally high levels of sugar or glucose molecules floating in the blood. These exceptionally elevated sugar levels pose a big risk to the health and functioning of other organs in the body. Elevated levels of blood sugar in the body has been reported to cause a variety of serious and complicated conditions such as blindness, kidney disease, heart disease and stroke.
